High-Speed Internet Required
I'm one of those people who actually used to surf the web on a dial-up connection. It's a far cry from the lightning fast fiber-optic connection I'm using now. Those were the days when a phone call would interrupt your session and you'd have to redial the connection. Of course, back in the late 1990s, the Internet wasn't as media and technology intensive as it is now. Who knew we would rely on it for so many aspects. DSL was a few years away and costly for most residential users. The speeds at which it connected folks like me eventually, were a joy to behold though!
The Internet is now playing a major role in our daily lives and activities. It's not just for information gathering or socializing anymore. While people still socialize on the Internet, newer technologies such as video streaming, online gaming and video conferencing have become common activities in most people's lives. These activities require users to have a high-speed connection such as DSL or fiber. Videos will stutter and online games will lag without these kinds of connection services to your home. These new technologies will be further ushered as companies rely further on the cloud (the internet) to deliver goods and services to users. Apple's iCloud and Microsoft's Windows Live are examples of this shift to reliance on the internet for services.
