Another Apple product has finally been discontinued. The plain and simple yet still amazing Apple Macbook.
Years ago, when my wife needed a laptop for college courses, I had several choices to consider. Instead of a Windows-based portable, I decided to go with an Apple model, so that she didn't have to deal with pesky taskbar updates or pop-ups. I had considered the lightweight MacBook Air, but she actually needed a CD-Rom drive. A MacBook Pro was just too much processing power than she had needed, considering she would just be doing word processing and accessing the internet. I settled on the simple MacBook for her educational needs.
While lacking the back-lit keyboard feature (something she may not need anyway) of it's higher-end cousins, it's been a great laptop through these years. It has a Core 2 Duo processor, ample storage space (I plan to upgrade soon) and sufficient memory. I could upgrade it to the new Lion operating system or not. Of course, the white poly carbonate casing has been problematic with it's propensity to get oily or dirty easily.
Now Apple has chosen it's MacBook Air as it's value option and discontinued the MacBook line entirely, with the release of OSX Lion last week. With the lack of a CD slot, it would be tough to consider this new model, if she ever wanted to upgrade it though. Here's to you white MacBook.
