Voltron Force

The Voltron legacy returns in a brand new animated series.

New Era (eFashion Solutions)

Characters old and new
The new Voltron Force animated series debuted last month. It is the successor to the classic Voltron cartoon and it passes the torch to the next generation rather than rebooting the franchise. The series introduces new young characters or cadets and includes some of the original members as well. The early episodes and storylines kicks things off with the original team being dissolved and disbanded due to an accident. Several of them now train the young cadets and often get caught up in their adventures. All the lion mecha as well as the combined Voltron robot have a sleek organic and curvy look which is a far cry from the boxy exterior and design from the original series.

While we applaud the new series and the mix of the old and new elements, the animation seems so sub-par in quality. We'd rather have the original artists animate this series instead! The exceptions are for the mecha which are nicely done but overall, the series animation is lacking and is nowhere was as fluid and lush as it's contemporary, Iron Man: Armored Adventures.  Voltron Force is style-wise and visually similar to the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon.  Moreover, watching some of the episodes, there were a variety of scenes where we felt, the producers and animators really dropped the ball. The legacy of Voltron deserves better! The series shows great promise and we'll be watching.
