Avengers: Black Widow
I've always been intrigued by the Black Widow and the only thing I knew about her was that she was Russian and kicked butt! I'll admit I never saw her in action during the Avengers but I enjoyed her partnership with Daredevil during Ann Nocenti's run. The short hair look of the heroine drawn by John Romita, Jr., was spectacular. The pairing of both characters was unique because frankly, Black Widow didn't have any super powers at all.
The contrast in costumes for both characters also stood out for me as you had Daredevil clad in red while the Black Widow had her striking red hair standing out against her black costume. Her mysterious past also intrigued because I often wondered what her true motives were. Working side-by-side with other heroes, could they really trust her or did she have other secretive objectives as well?
Marvel Comics' Chris Arrant profiles the Black Widow and also points out that as trained spy who is skilled in combat and firearms, here she is part of the team that features super-powered individuals such as Captain America and Thor! Having been trained in Russia during the Cold War, as an answer to Captain America. She's nowhere near the level of past Avengers heroines such as She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel and of course the Wasp but she can hold her own and stand proudly with them! Unfortunately, heroines like her who lack super powers are few except for other characters such as Elektra.
Fans around the world got a glimpse of the Black Widow in Iron Man 2. Like the rest of you, I'm looking forward to seeing her stand her own and fight proudly alongside her Avengers when the movie debuts. Here's to you Black Widow!
