The Black Orchid miniseries was a childhood favorite of mine and was probably one of the precursors for the current Vertigo Comics imprint. The original prestige format miniseries depicted the origin story of the obscure Black Orchid character as written by Neil Gaiman with striking painted artwork by Dave McKean.
The miniseries, now recently released as a hardcover, provided more background information on the character connecting her with other prominent characters with similar paths such as Poison Ivy, Swamp Thing and even Jason Woodrue, the Floronic Man.
Gaiman’s miniseries also helped launched the character’s shortlived series under Vertigo and back into the DC Universe.
