Transformers: Soundwave

Here's a look back at one of the coolest Transformers (not just because of his voice!) from the first generation of the robots in disguise.

Soundwave with Ravage, Laserbeak
Soundwave was one of the trendiest Transformer of his time. His disguise wasn't a vehicle, airplane or a weapon like Megatron from the first generation cartoon series. His Earth form was that of a boom box and he could seemingly be taken or travel anywhere the Decepticon mission deemed. Of course, it puzzled us as to how a giant robot could suddenly revert into a tiny boom box. One of his main rivals was Soundblaster, an Autobot with a similar disguise.

Additionally, within his boom box form, the cassettes stored inside him were also Decepticons at his command. On any given battle with the Autobots, he could eject his tiny assistants Laserbeak (bird), Ravage (jaguar) and a few others to help defeat them. These Decepticon cassettes aided in surveillance and reconnaissance missions too and proved their worth over and over. The multifaceted Soundwave packed quite a punch!

While he wasn't as headstrong as StarScream, Megatron constantly relied on him throughout the series. Often reserved, he was loyal to the Decepticon leader or frankly, anyone else who took the mantle.
