Wonder Woman No. 1 Review

The fast paced debut of the new Wonder Woman series will leave readers wanting more. In fact, she doesn't appear until the middle of the relaunch. The premiere issue is packed with lots of action and intriguing new characters. If there is one other title that you plan to buy during DC Comics' relaunch and renumbering initiative, this is one issue you don't want to miss.  Furthermore, are readers ready for the fourth volume of the Amazon's adventures though?

The premiere issue of Wonder Woman No. 1 will certainly knock out readers with amazing action and developing plot lines that will have you hooked for the next issue. Writer Brian Azzarello and artist Cliff Chiang craft a magnificent and mysterious story, packed with Centaurs and the Greek gods themselves. I applaud them for not having to throw in an origin story alongside this one. Additionally, our debut issue starts off with a young woman named Zola, accompanied by Hermes, who are then both attacked by the Centaurs. Wonder Woman then gets involved in the fray. I'll leave it at that and won't spoil anymore details.

Wonder Woman versus a Centaur!
The issue is certainly a perfect starting point for anyone wanting to follow Wonder Woman. Unlike the previous volume, readers didn't have to know Donna Troy was during that previous storyline. I have to admit, this is my third Wonder Woman issue number 1 as a result of DC Comics' initiative to relaunch all of it's titles back to number one again. I briefly remember George Perez's revamp of the character during the late 1980s after the Crisis on Infinite Earths miniseries. Furthermore, I was able to purchase the premiere issues of the third volume of the character. Writer Allan Heinberg and artist Terry Dodson certainly intrigued audiences with Donna Troy taking the role as Wonder Woman instead of Diana Prince.

The Good: A solid issue filled mystery, action and intrigue that'll leave you waiting for the next issue and the next one too! Another Wonder Woman issue No. 1 to add to your collection.

The Bad: Some fight scenes can be quite gory. Not recommended for younger readers.

Final Verdict: A-
