Review: Hawkeye Issue 18

The death of an acquaintance leads Kate Bishop to the dark side of Hollywood's social circles and lifestyle. What will Kate uncover?

If you've been enjoying Kate's West Coast adventures as much as I have, then fasten your seat-belts for another ride into the truly seedy and morbid side of this story.  Writer Matt Fraction has masterfully opened up his knowledge of Los Angeles' glamour and glitz in Kate's previous solo outing and dives back in for another round in issue 18. Failed musicians and drug abuse were one thing as Fraction brings on board Count Nefaria and Madame Masque for this grim tale involving Kate's friend Harold H. Harold!

Fraction beautifully ties in the Hollywood lifestyle with Count Nefaria's schemes in this unforgettable yet dark story. I would have expected this tale to have appeared sometime around Halloween so prepare yourselves for a terrifying tale! I love Fraction captures the cultural aspects of Los Angeles (LAX) and the social framework the underlies the area's lifestyle.

Annie Wu's artwork has truly grown on me during the past solo issues. Her rough yet on-point style meshes well with the story. Hoping that we'll get to see more of her work here again but the ending with Madame Masque, impacts that decision in some capacity.

Final Verdict: 9/10
