Post-PC Era

Hold the phone, the PC is still alive and kicking. Products like the iPad or mobile devices aren't quite up to task yet when it comes to replacing laptops and desktops.

While Apple is pushing towards a system where you media is completely locked up in the clouds, there are many  aspects of our computing needs, that still warrant the use of PCs. Of course, PCs are defined as either laptops or more commonly, desktops. There are just many activities such as gaming or using the internet that gadgets simply cannot parallel.

College students should still use a PC for their needs. In fact, through my own research, most college websites don't fully support today's popular and varied browsers. Don't rely on the iPad browser to get student work, as you may find some sites still relying on technologies in older browsers like Internet Explorer. It's good to have choices when it comes to computing needs.

Until the hardware gets better, gamers will still have to use dedicated video cards for their gaming needs. While mobile games like Infinity Blade and Rage for iPhone are spectacular, the experience of playing such games on a mobile device may not be as exciting given the screen dimensions and the controls.

Apple iTunes

Mobile devices and tablets certainly compliment the PC but aren't there yet feature wise, to fully replace these products.  The PC manufacturers, even Apple, certainly won't make any immediate moves to discontinue their hardware (laptops and desktops) products anytime either.  Perhaps companies will learn from HP and not make the same mistakes when it comes to the bottom line.
